Our Competitive Achievements

Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre is one of Canada’s most accomplished competitive Wushu programs, developing national-team athletes and international medalists for more than 25 years.

Founded in 1998 by Master Wenqi Li, the school has developed generations of athletes who have represented Canada at the Youth Olympic Games, World Wushu Championships, World Junior Wushu Championships, Taolu World Cup, Pan-American Wushu Championships, and other major international competitions.

Our athletes have won World Junior titles, a Youth Olympic silver medal, a World Wushu Championships medal, numerous Pan-American championships, and hundreds of medals at Canadian national and international competitions. Most recently, athletes from Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre won seven gold, one silver, and two bronze medals at the 2026 World Junior Wushu Championships in Tianjin, contributing to Canada’s fourth-place overall finish in Taolu, behind only Hong Kong, Indonesia, and China.

Our philosophy combines the pursuit of competitive excellence with a lifelong appreciation for Wushu. Training begins with a strong foundation in jibengong (基本功) before progressing to hand forms—including Longfist (changquan) and Southern Fist (nanquan)—and weapons such as broadsword (daoshu), straight sword (jianshu), staff (gunshu), and spear (qiangshu).

From beginners discovering Wushu for the first time to athletes representing Canada on the world stage, our goal is to help every student reach their potential through disciplined training, strong fundamentals, and a passion for the sport.

Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre is based in Markham, Ontario, serving students and competitive athletes from across the Greater Toronto Area.
