2021 Online China Tournament

What to do during COVID when all competitions are cancelled? Enter online tournaments of course!

During the pandemic, we were saddened to learn that in-person tournaments were cancelled around the world. In May 2021, however, we were invited to participate in an online tournament hosted by the Sichuan Wushu Association, where we competed in a fun and open online youth competition.

The tournament featured athletes from across China’s Sichuan province … and our team from Canada! This was a great way to keep our athletes motivated to train and hone their skills.

A big thank you to Shifu, as well as Coach Ren Gang from the Sichuan Wushu Association.

Coach Ren Gang from China visits Wayland Li Wushu

In July 2019, Wayland Li Wushu was honoured to welcome Coach Ren Gang (任刚老师) who visited our school from China. Coach Ren is a former national champion in China and was a member of the Sichuan Wushu Team during the 70s and 80s. Today, he holds numerous roles within the China Wushu Association and Sichuan Wushu programs.

Coach Ren spent time with our students to improve their training during our summer camp. He also taught his traditional Tongbeiquan form.

Thank you to Coach Ren and his wife for spending time with us, and we hope our students will remember his important coaching.

Jia you!
