World Champions return home from World Juniors!

Congratulations to the success of all 14 athletes from Team Canada, including 9 from Wayland Li Wushu, that participated in the 10th World Junior Wushu Championships!

  • With 7 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals, this was the strongest showing for Team Canada Wushu. Canada placed 4th for Taolu!!

Congratulations to all of national team athletes from across Canada, including Junchen Yang, Miranda Wei, Max Dong, Roberta Zhang and Matea Cheng. It was a blast to be on this journey together!

And a special congratulations to Shifu Wenqi Li and Coach Erica Li for your hard work and perserverance in coaching so many athletes.

We are 10 days out until the World Junior Wushu Championships, and the team from Wayland Li Wushu are ready to respresent Canada in Tianjin, China.

We’ve been training diligently and DAILY to make this Wushu dream a reality … and make Team Canada proud.

Success at the IWUF Wushu Taolu Junior Athletes Training Camp

On January 2 to 11, 2026, two athletes from Wayland Li Wushu that are on the Canadian National team were invited to participate in the IWUF Wushu Taolu Junior Athletes Training Camp in Beijing, China.

Lia Tang-Ruggiero and Allen Liu joined four other members of the Canadian national team (Junchen, Miranda, Alex and Roberta), and they had the honour of learning from masters Ms. Liu Qinghua (刘清华) and Mr. Zhao Qingjian (赵庆建) and under the organization of Mr. Rong Jun (荣军). Lia and Allen trainied with Coaches Liu and Zhao on the 3rd International Set of Changquan (长拳) and Gunshu (棍术). Master Wenqi Li led the athletes from Wayland Li Wushu, and also attending the camp were Masters Helen Liang and Chenhan Yang.

All athletes and coaches stayed at the Wanda Jin Beijing Pinggu Hotel (北京平谷万达锦华酒), and training was held daily at the Pinggu District Sports Centre.

In addition their routines, all athletes made amazing friendships with fellow wushu practitioners from the around the world.

We are grateful to the IWUF, the Chinese Wushu Association and Wushu Canada for supporting our athletes in this camp!

2025 Ottawa Open Wushu Championships

Congratulates to all 15 athletes from Wayland Li that competed in the 2025 Ottawa Open Wushu Championships! 

Date: November 29, 2025

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Key Achievements:

  • Group A: 6 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals for our Group A athletes Lia, Allen, Cindy and Eunice

  • Group B: 7 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals for our Group B athletes Venus, Eason, Lucas and Derek

  • Group C: 12 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medal for our Group C athletes Thea, Derrick, Lucas, Lousie, Kyle and Daniel

Markham City Hall recognition 2025

On November 24, 2025, the City of Markham held a Community Recognition Ceremony for our athletes that competed in the 2024 World Junior Wushu Championships in Brunei for Team Canada. Our athletes were honoured with this recognition alongside our members of the Markham community that had outstanding achievements in sports, the arts, science, business and academics.

The City put on a great event with the following activities: playing of the Canadian national anthem, awards handed out by Major Frank Scarpitti, individual and group photos, and a short reception with snacks.

Congrats Team Canada at the World Wushu Championships

Congratulations to all of the Canadian National Wushu Team athletes who competed this September in the 2025 17th World Wushu Championships. You all did great - amazing performances!

Well done to Erica, Caleb, Rasa, Ashley, Julianna, Cathy, Andrew and Brandon. And special shouout to all the coaches and parents supporting the team.

Some highlights for Wayland Li Wushu Athletes include:

  • Erica Li achieved 9th place for Changquan, 9th for Jianshu and a top ten finish for Qiangshu

  • Caleb Akai achieved 6th place in the qualifier round for Daoshu, and 9th overall in the final Daoshu division

  • Rasa Rahnema achieved 15th place in Nanquan, 10th for Nandao and 15th for Nangun

Opening Ceremony Demo for the 17th World Wushu Championships

How cool is that?! Team Canada (along with our world wushu friends) was able to perform at the opening ceremony for the 17th World Wushu Championships. Woah!
