We are 10 days out until the World Junior Wushu Championships, and the team from Wayland Li Wushu are ready to respresent Canada in Tianjin, China.

We’ve been training diligently and DAILY to make this Wushu dream a reality … and make Team Canada proud.

Congrats Team Canada at the World Wushu Championships

Congratulations to all of the Canadian National Wushu Team athletes who competed this September in the 2025 17th World Wushu Championships. You all did great - amazing performances!

Well done to Erica, Caleb, Rasa, Ashley, Julianna, Cathy, Andrew and Brandon. And special shouout to all the coaches and parents supporting the team.

Some highlights for Wayland Li Wushu Athletes include:

  • Erica Li achieved 9th place for Changquan, 9th for Jianshu and a top ten finish for Qiangshu

  • Caleb Akai achieved 6th place in the qualifier round for Daoshu, and 9th overall in the final Daoshu division

  • Rasa Rahnema achieved 15th place in Nanquan, 10th for Nandao and 15th for Nangun

Opening Ceremony Demo for the 17th World Wushu Championships

How cool is that?! Team Canada (along with our world wushu friends) was able to perform at the opening ceremony for the 17th World Wushu Championships. Woah!

This honour places her among six exceptional athletes worldwide, including competitors from China and Singapore. Lia’s journey has been made possible by the unwavering support of her community. Congrats Lia on your Gold Medal IWUF Post

Congrats Lia on your gold medal performance 🥇 at the 2024 World Junior Wushu Championships in Brunei to become world champion of Group B Daoshu. Well done!

The International Wushu Federation (IWUF) selects all gold medal winners and shares their videos as part of the “online learning classroom.” We’re thrilled that the IWUF selected Lia in this regard.

We celebrate our achievements at Worlds

On Sunday, October 13th 2024, we celebrated with a party to honor the achievements of our athletes at the 9th World Junior Wushu Championships.

The party featured honored guests from local governments, parents of athletes, students of our school, and of course the 10 National Team athletes that competed at Worlds in Brunei. There was a short demonstration, a speech from Master Li, and plenty of food and fun.

Champions at the 2024 World Junior Wushu Championships

Congratulations to the success of all 14 athletes from Team Canada, including 10 from Wayland Li Wushu, that participated in the 9th World Junior Wushu Championships!

Key achievements:

  • 10 athletes from Wayland Li represented Canada on the National Wushu Team in taolu competition

  • Gold medal 🥇in Group B Gunshu for Lia Tang-Ruggiero

  • Gold medal 🥇in Group B Daoshu for Lia Tang-Ruggiero

  • Gold medal 🥇in Group C Daoshu for Ryan Gao

  • Silver medal 🥈in Group C Daoshu for Thea Dong

  • Bronze medal 🥉 in Group C Qiangshu for Eason Gao

  • Bronze medal 🥉in Group A Qiangshu for Chris Gao

  • Venus Li, Marcus Li, Amanda Sun, Allen Liu and Kai-Hsin Chang finishing with top 10 or better placements in their respective divisions

  • With 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals, there was the strongest showing for Team Canada ever in a single competition event. Canada placed 8th overall!

Congratulations to all of national team athletes from across Canada, including Junchen Yang, Virigina Cai, Melissa Hai and Julianna Huang. It was a blast to be on this journey together!

The championships were held in Brunei from September 22 - 29, 2024.

And a special congratulations to Shifu Wenqi Li and Coach Erica Li for your hard work and perserverance in coaching so many athletes.
