2018 Canadian National Junior Wushu Team Selections

Congratulates to all 30 athletes from Wayland Li that competed in the 2018 Canadian Nationals on May 19-20, 2018! 

Key Achievements:

  • 7 athletes from Wayland Li Wushu selected to represent Canada on the Junior National Wushu Team, including Rex Lam, Rasa Rahnema, Erica Li, Caleb Akai, Zeina Shaltout, Adam Shaltout and Kai-Hsin Chang.
     
  • 19 athletes participated in High Performance taolu divisions, finishing with gold, silver and bronze medal achievements.
     
  • Open events: 10 students participated in competition for the first time, taking home several gold, silver and bronze medals.

Lion Dance at St. Patrick's Day Parade in Toronto

The lion dance team from Wayland Li participated in the 2018 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Toronto. Thank you to all of our performers and parents for helping to organize a successful event!

The parade was held on March 11, 2018 and brought together several lion dance schools from the Toronto area, including Sunny Tang Martial Arts, All Masters and Wayland Li. The organizing body was Wushu Canada and Wushu Ontario.

Congrats Wayland Li Athletes at Ontario Winter Games

Congratulations to all of the Wayland Li athletes that participated in the 2018 Ontario Winter Games!

The event was held from May 1-4, 2018 at Bracebridge & Muskoka Lakes Secondary School. The event brought together Ontario's best athletes in Taolu, Traditional Forms and Sanda.

Wayland Li had a total of 23 athletes compete, bringing a total of 15 medals.

Wayland Li Wushu at Fairchild Spring Festival Gala

On February 18, 2018, members of the demonstration team from Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre (李文启武术学院) performed at Fairchild's Spring Festival Gala 2018 (四海同声 - 春节晚会).

The performance featured three parts. The first act was lion dance drumming performed by Fairchild DJs Elissa (高瑩), Edwin (駱曦) and Amy (胡懿恩), and members from Wayland Li. The second and third performances were Wushu demonstrations by Wayland Li's competition team. The event was held at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto.

A big thank you to all the parent volunteers, students and of course, Shifu and Shimu. An amazing performance!

Lion Dance For Ford at Toronto AutoShow

On February 17, 2018, members of Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre performed lion dance at the Toronto AutoShow on behalf of Ford Canada.

2018 Chinese New Year Gala (海外春晚) Lion and Dragon Dance Performance

On February 15, 2018, members of the lion and dragon dance team from Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre performed at the 2018 Spring Festival Gala (海外春晚) in Toronto, Canada.

The event was hosted by Canada National Television (加拿大国家电视台), and held at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

Our team was comprised of 4 lions and 2 dragons. Great job everyone - you were all a smashing success!

Wushu Demo at Beijing Opera Spring Festival

On January 28, 2018, the demonstration team from Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre performed at the Spring Festival celebration of Beijing Opera (歡樂春節 2018新年戲曲晚會).

The occasion was hosted by the Canada Chinese Opera Centre and featured visiting performers Yu Kuizhi (于魁智) and Li Shengsu (李胜素).

Wushu Official Event at Ontario Winter Games

The Ontario Winter Games will run from March 1-4, 2018 and Wushu will be an official sport featured at the Games.

The event is organized by the Ontario Winter Games and Wushu Ontario, and will be held at the Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School.

The Wushu division will feature Sanda and Wushu Taolu competitive events.

Athletes from Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre will be competing at the Games.
