Wushu in Canada Documentary

On October 2, 2021, we decided to shoot a short documentary on Wushu. We reused a lot of the routines we practiced for the Shang-Chi movie release demo, and decided to head down to Scarborough Bluffs Park. Nothing like doing cool Wushu with friends down by the lake!

We would like to thank Quinn Dalgarno for his professional and exceptional filmmaking skills. If you need a superb multimedia specialist in film, editing, photography and sound engineering, you can get in contact with Quinn through this site: https://www.quinndalgarnoproductions.com/.

Jia you!!!! 加油!!!!

Shang-Chi Movie Premiere Wushu Demonstration

Back in 2021, we were contracted to perform at the Canadian premiere of the Marvel hit “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” We were EXTREMELY excited by this - the movie prominently featured Wushu and we love all the actors in the movie (especially hometown boy Simu Liu!).

We planned a very choreographed wushu demo and practiced, practiced, practiced. And then we practiced some more…

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and the Delta variant, the movie studio cancelled all promotional events for Canada and we lost the opportunity to perform.

But the show must go on…

It was a great experience for all of our athlete performers and parents.

Hey Marvel - call us to demo for the sequel Shang-Chi movie! ;)

2021 Online China Tournament

What to do during COVID when all competitions are cancelled? Enter online tournaments of course!

During the pandemic, we were saddened to learn that in-person tournaments were cancelled around the world. In May 2021, however, we were invited to participate in an online tournament hosted by the Sichuan Wushu Association, where we competed in a fun and open online youth competition.

The tournament featured athletes from across China’s Sichuan province … and our team from Canada! This was a great way to keep our athletes motivated to train and hone their skills.

A big thank you to Shifu, as well as Coach Ren Gang from the Sichuan Wushu Association.

Spring 2021 Update for Wayland Li Wushu

Dear parents and students,

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy.

This message serves to confirm that since the Ontario government entered a stay-at-home order on April 8th, all classes will continue to be suspended until further notice.

We know this is a challenging time for all families balancing work and online schooling. Please do keep up your training at home if possible - getting exercise is good for both the mind and body.

Sincerely,

Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre
