Master Wenqi Li and athletes honoured at the 2026 WushuCanada Hall of Fame Gala

The 2026 WushuCanada Hall of Fame Gala was held on April 11, 2026, in Markham, Ontario. The evening celebrated the achievements of the martial arts community with awards, scholarships, Hall of Fame recognitions, and martial arts demonstrations. Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti attended and delivered remarks.

Master Wenqi Li was honoured with the Silver Medallion Lifetime Achievement Award - congratulations Shifu!

Furthermore, Lia Tang-Ruggiero, Venus Li, and other Canadian athletes received scholarships for their achievements in global competitions during the 2026 competitive season.

Thank you very much to Mr. Sunny Tang for supporting the scholarship and for your support of our athletes. And thank you to Mr. Alan Tang for his continued support of the National Junior Team programming.

2026国际传统功夫名人堂颁奖典礼暨晚宴于2026年4月11日在加拿大安大略省万锦市举行。

本次活动由加拿大武术协会主办，通过颁发奖项、奖学金、名人堂荣誉以及精彩的武术表演，共同庆祝加拿大中华武术界取得的成就。万锦市市长Frank Scarpitti出席活动并致辞。

Closing Ceremony at the World Junior Wushu Championships

The 2026 World Junior Wushu Championships in Tianjin came to a memorable close with the official closing ceremony, featuring speeches and a special Champions Demonstration.

We were thrilled that Lia Tang-Ruggiero was honoured to be invited to perform in the demonstration alongside champion athletes from around the world, bringing an unforgettable World Junior Wushu Championships experience to a fitting conclusion.

Congratulations to the success of all 14 athletes from Team Canada, including 9 from Wayland Li Wushu, that participated in the 10th World Junior Wushu Championships!

Congratulations to all of national team athletes from across Canada, including Junchen Yang, Miranda Wei, Max Dong, Roberta Zhang and Matea Cheng. It was a blast to be on this journey together!

And a special congratulations to Shifu Wenqi Li and Coach Erica Li for your hard work and perserverance in coaching so many athletes.

Opening Ceremony at the 2026 World Junior Wushu Championships

In the lead-up to the 2026 World Junior Wushu Championships in Tianjin, the Wayland Li Wushu team arrived in China and began final preparations for the competition. Led by Shifu Wenqi Li and Coach Erica Li, our athletes — Lia, Allen, Venus, Lucas, Eason, Lucas C., Derrick, Thea and Khloe — joined other athletes from Team Canada in Tianjin, taking part in final training sessions, official activities and the Opening Ceremony before competition began.

Lia Tang-Ruggiero was selected as the flag-bearer for the opening ceremony, holding the national flag as Canada was announced among the many nations participating in the competition.

What an amazing experience for all involved. It was a blast in Tianjin!

China Training Preparation for World Junior Wushu Championships

Go behind the scenes with our Wushu Team during a full 85-minute training session in China ahead of the 2026 World Junior Wushu Championships in Tianjin.

This session captures the team preparing in the final day before the championships began, as our athletes worked through warm-ups and basics, taolu sections and full routines, difficulty movements and competition preparation.

The training ultimately translated into an outstanding performance at the World Championships, with Wayland Li athletes winning 7 gold medals, 1 silver and 2 bronze for Canada.

Athletes featured include Lia, Allen, Venus, Lucas, Eason, Lucas C., Derrick, Thea and Khloe, under the guidance of Shifu Wenqi Li. A look at the work behind the results … and what high-level junior wushu training looks like before a major international competition.

Success at the IWUF Wushu Taolu Junior Athletes Training Camp

On January 2 to 11, 2026, two athletes from Wayland Li Wushu that are on the Canadian National team were invited to participate in the IWUF Wushu Taolu Junior Athletes Training Camp in Beijing, China.

Lia Tang-Ruggiero and Allen Liu joined four other members of the Canadian national team (Junchen, Miranda, Alex and Roberta), and they had the honour of learning from masters Ms. Liu Qinghua (刘清华) and Mr. Zhao Qingjian (赵庆建) and under the organization of Mr. Rong Jun (荣军). Lia and Allen trainied with Coaches Liu and Zhao on the 3rd International Set of Changquan (长拳) and Gunshu (棍术). Master Wenqi Li led the athletes from Wayland Li Wushu, and also attending the camp were Masters Helen Liang and Chenhan Yang.

All athletes and coaches stayed at the Wanda Jin Beijing Pinggu Hotel (北京平谷万达锦华酒), and training was held daily at the Pinggu District Sports Centre.

In addition their routines, all athletes made amazing friendships with fellow wushu practitioners from the around the world.

We are grateful to the IWUF, the Chinese Wushu Association and Wushu Canada for supporting our athletes in this camp!

Family Weekend CNY Demos at the Aga Khan Museum

The Wayland Li Wushu Team performed at the Aga Khan Museum during the Family Day weekend celebrations, which featured Lunar New Year activities welcoming the Year of the Horse. The event was presented in partnership with the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto and included cultural performances and family activities.

Wushu Demo for CNY Chinese Consulate Event

On February 6, 2026, the Wayland Li Wushu team performed wushu for a Year of the Horse celebration at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto. The event was held in honour of Canadian government officials and the business community, as well as members of the Chinese Consulate in Toronto.
